Stuntman sues Sony over 'Ghost Rider 2' motorcycle crash
Stuntman Michael "Crazy Mike" Gaboff is claiming over $1 million in damages from the producers of the most recent 'Ghost Rider' film.
The damages are for hospital bills that he claims to have run up following a promotional stunt that went disastrously wrong.
Gaboff suffered life-threatening injuries after he drove a motorbike into a lake while on fire in an attempt to recreate the on-screen antics of the titular hero, played by Nicholas Cage.
The stuntman claims Sony, producers Break Media and Next Point, Inc. were negligent in the execution of a stunt that left him with a broken back, collapsed lungs and second-degree burns.
The publicity stunt took place in April 2012 and was designed to advertise the release of the sequel 'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance' on DVD.
The lawsuit, filed this week by Los Angeles firms Greene Briollet & Wheeler and Balaban & Spielberger, says that ''Crazy Mike'' ran up over $1 million in hospital bills after the incident and also alleges that the producers showed "a conscious disregard of the safety of those observing the activity."
The video of Gaboff's crash can currently be seen on Youtube.
