Nick Naylor has a way with words, which is kinda handy in his line of work as the sultan of spin doctoring for The Academy Of Tobacco Studies.

Jason Reitman's Thank You For Smoking, based on Christopher Buckley's novel, is a biting satire about the tobacco industry that successfully takes heady pot shots at many of the things that Americans hold dear to their hearts; alcohol, red-necks, liberals, guns while focussing on the evil weed itself.

Reitman's film takes heady pot shots at many of the things that Americans hold dear to their hearts; alcohol, red-necks, liberals, guns while focussing on the evil weed itself. Nick Naylor (Aaron Eckhart) is the smooth talking morally bankrupt pro-tobacco spin doctor who justifies his job to his son with the line "we all gotta pay the mortgage.” However, his philosophy is challenged and his world is on the brink of collapse when betrayed by a news reporter (Katie Holmes) he became attracted to.

While dealing well with the pertinent subject of the age of spin, there's some good humour throughout the film particular Nick's lunches with fellow 'MODs' (Merchants Of Death), one representing alcohol and the other guns.

Featuring a supporting cast that also includes Robert Duvall, William H. Macy, Rob Lowe and Sam Elliott, this scathing piece of film bites the ass of the world of spin doctoring, it would seem that you can sell almost anything as long as you make the other party look worse than you do.
