Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg directs double Oscar-winner Tom Hanks in a tale of humanity and man's ability to adapt to his circumstances. Another Oscar-winner Catherine Zeta Jones is the love interest.

Hanks stars as Viktor Navorski, a native of an unspecified Eastern European country who arrives at New York's JFK airport one day only to be pulled aside when he presents his passport. His country has suffered a coup, it transpires, and the US are refusing to recognise the new rulers - meaning that his passport is useless and he can't enter the States. Neither can he leave, though, so Viktor heads into the terminal for the longest delay of his life.
