There's been a huge amount of hype surrounding Wolfgang Petersen's sand and sandals adaptation of Homer's The Iliad, not least because it features some of Hollywood's hottest talent in skirts and lashings of baby oil. But can the walls of Troy withstand the pressure, or will they crumble under the onslaught from the critics?
Surely we all know the story by now, but here's Hollywood's take on things - Helen (Diane Kruger) has left her husband, King Menelaus of Sparta (Brendan Gleeson), and done a runner with Paris (Orlando Bloom), a young prince of Troy. Menelaus beseeches his power-hungry brother King Agamemnon (Brian Cox) to go to war with the Trojans and let him have his revenge. Agamemnon agrees - though he has his own motives - and calls on Achilles (Brad Pitt), the greatest warrior the world has ever known, to sail with him.
Lavish production values, a star-studded cast, huge action sequences and an epic running time means that Troy can really lay claim to being a modern-day descendant of such iconic flicks as Ben Hur and Spartacus.
The bulging two-disc set will contain extras such as three featurettes, the theatrical trailer and an Easter egg.
