The Exorcist to get TV remake

The classic horror 'The Exorcist' will become a TV series treatment

The renowned tale of a child possessed by a demonic creature will become a ten-episode TV series and will go beyond the scope of William Friedkin's 1973 film and further investigate the build up to the possession and its aftermath.

The new TV series is being produced by Roy Lee, the man behind 'The Ring', and apparently he's made the canny decision to bring in 'Martha Marcy May Marlene' writer/director Sean Durkin in for the job (reports Vulture).

Durkin proved himself a master of atmosphere and suspense in 'Martha Marcy...', so you can be sure he'll make the most of this material if the networks bite when the project is shopped around over the next few weeks.

The question is though, should this genre classic be tampered with at all?
