Gravity and American Hustle pick up most nominations, with plenty of Brits also selected.

The 2014 Oscars nominations were announced today by hunk/’Thor’ star Chris Hemsworth and new Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs.

‘Gravity’ and 'American Hustle' were the big winners with ten nominations, but they will face stiff competition from ’12 Years a Slave’ - which received nine.

British talents Steve McQueen and Chiwetel Ejiofor were nominated for ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Actor’ for their work on ’12 Years’, while Steve Coogan also picked up a nod for his work on the ‘Philomena’ script. The British-produced film was also nominated for 'Best Picture', and 'Best Actress' for Dame Judi Dench.
