Timecop to get the reboot treatment
New take on Van Damme action film won't feature Van Damme, however
Universal is planning to reboot time-travel actioner 'Timecop'.
The original film emerged in 1994 and starred Jean Claude Van Damme as an officer in the Time Enforcement Commission, a special force tasked with stopping criminals bending physics for their own gain.
Directed by Peter Hyams, and also starring Mia Sara, the original was based on the two-issue comic book series published by Dark Horse Comics.

Though it was Van Damme's highest grossing film, making more than $100 million worldwide, he will not be involved in the new project.
'Timecop' was also one of Van Damme's better-received films critically.
It went on to spawn a TV series on ABC, and then a straight-to-video sequel with a new cast.
Universal is planning a complete 're-imagining' of the concept and is courting writers.
