Tintin movie: Simon Pegg wants Edgar Wright for ‘Part 3’

With Peter Jackson recently confirmed as directing the second ‘Tintin’ movie, we asked stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost who they wanted to direct the third in the planned trilogy.

The pair, who play Thompson and Thomson, reckon their long-time friend - and director on ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz’ - Edgar Wright should take the helm.

“I’d certainly like to see Edgar let loose with the technology that performance capture affords you,” said Pegg, “to let someone as dynamic and exciting a director as Edgar to have a go at it, that would be ace.”

Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Hergé’s classic series of books was always intended to be a trilogy and Peter Jackson was long-understood to be the director of the second, but there is currently no one in line for the third.

Wright, who directed last year’s ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. The World’, was one of the writers of the first film’s script so he’s already in the mix for the gig.

Pegg and Frost were also excited about what Wright could do with the film’s motion capture technology.

“You can do things you could never do with live action, with almost the same degree of reality. You couldn’t have some of the stuff in Tintin, it just literally wouldn’t be possible - physically possible, insurance-wise possible!”, said Pegg.

About the second film, Nick Frost said, “I think they’re potentially going to wrap up this adventure and then incorporate two more.” Pegg added: “We’re still on the trail of Red Rackham to a degree, certainly his treasure.”
