Cruise was in India to promote new film 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' and was greeted by around 200 enthusiastic fans at Mumbai airport on Saturday 4 December.

However Bollywood news site First Post claims that at least some of them were paid extras, with one telling them: "I don't know who he is or what he does. We were told to come here by 1pm today and wait for a foreign VIP to come out of the airport gate and scream and shout when he came."

Another apparent extra said: "None of us know who Tom is. There was a buffet lunch also for us and we were paid Rs 150 (£1.87) for this job today. We do this for television shows and other such events where crowds are required."

Apparently a buffet lunch was also supplied.

'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' is released 26 December.
