Van Damme admits he was a bad actor

Muscles from Brussels confesses his skills were lacking

Jean-Claude Van Damme has admitted that he was a bad actor early on in his career.

The Hollywood hard-nut attributed his early success in films like 'Bloodsport' to the fact that he had something different to offer.

“I think with the karate wave, I came at the right time at the right place,” he told Total Film. “It was Bruce Lee, then it was Chuck Norris, then suddenly Jean-Claude Van Damme came in as a white guy, so... I guess it’s due to my destiny more than my acting at the time.

“I was a bad actor, man, but the heart was there.”

Van Damme is currently promoting action sequel 'The Expendables 2', and reckons his skills in front of the camera have improved since those early days.

“(Director) Stallone was very happy about my acting,” he added. “He was kinda upset because he didn’t know which take to take. So he’s a great teacher in a sense of knowing the character. Very intelligent.”
