This biopic concerning country singing legend Johnny Cash elegantly focusses on a musical genius.

The film starts in one long flashback for Cash as he waits nervously to perform in front of a prison full of inmates. His young life was marred with the tragic death of his elder brother before heading to Germany for his military service. Once back in the US he formed a band and fought to get a record deal that would send them on tour with the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis and the future object of his affections June Carter.

Despite both being in other relationships, Cash and Carter were in love, but sadly the only time they were allowed to be alone was on stage, in front of ten thousand people. As Cash's fame took it's toll, his life spiralling out of control due to drugs and his marriage falling apart, it was June who brought the singer back to life, and once there, they were finally able to enjoy the relationship they'd long yearned for.

The casting of Joaquin Phoenix as Cash, and Reese Witherspoon as his partner June Carter is inspiring as both actors give 100 per cent to the roles (although both were reluctant when they heard they'd have to sing, which they do surprisingly well) both earning best actor and actress Golden Globe awards for their efforts. Their performances are faultless, almost breathtaking and their on-screen chemistry is both believable and captivating.

There's also an impressive array of extras over the two discs including: Audio commentary from director/co-writer James Mangold, deleted scenes (21 mins), 8 extended musical sequences (22 mins), Folsom: Cash And The Comeback featurette, Ring Of Fire: The Passion Of Johnny And June featurette, Becoming Cash/Becoming Carter featurette, Celebrating The Man In Black: The Making Of Walking The Line featurette, Theatrical trailer and Cash And His Faith featurette.
