Whitney Houston’s final movie role revealed

Tragic singer had finished filming role in 'Sparkle' along with 'American Idol' winner Jordin Sparks

As the entertainment world continues to reel from the shock death of singer and actress Whitney Houston, details are emerging of what will turn out to be her final movie role.

Houston, who died aged 48 on Saturday, had finished filming ‘Sparkle’, a remake of the 1976 film (starring Irene Cara) that will also feature 'American Idol' winner Jordin Sparks.

The movie looks at the impact of drugs on a musical family, a theme which will have special resonance given Houston’s well publicised battle with drug addiction.

The film follows three sisters who must deal with the cost of fame as their singing careers take off. Whitney plays Jordin’s mother.

Tragic... Whitney HoustonA spokesman for Sony pictures confirmed to CNN that the movie would be released as planned in August, though there are no details yet of whether it will be released internationally.

They said: "Like all those who knew and loved her, we are shocked and saddened and the world has lost an incomparable talent. Right now our thoughts are with her daughter, her family and her friends."

The producer of ‘Sparkle’, Howard Rosenman, told EW.com that he was in “total shock.”

He said: “I just saw the rough cut [of 'Sparkle'] last night. She is unbelievably brilliant in it. I am beside myself. I am absolutely devastated. She was one of the most talented entertainers who ever lived.”

The 48-year-old singer was best known for her glittering musical career, but she had also made some memorable screen appearances.

Her best known role was in 'The Bodyguard' opposite Kevin Costner. That film also led to the monumental chart-topper 'I Will Always Love You'. She also starred in 'Waiting To Exhale' and 'The Preacher’s Wife'.

I am sorry that my dad, my mum and my brother are dead. Who will miss them. Me, that's who. Why should I come on here and say oh what a shame, poor Whitney, she is dead. She meant nothing to me. She was a good singer, now she is dead. And every bugger else will die.

More people die from alcohol consumption (and cause death to others) and smoking, than drugs. Yet ironically, they're both legal. Figure that..?

Because the idiots that make these laws up, are drunkards.

Because there's too much money keeping too many of the elites in the lap of luxury for them to be outlawed.

Sadly, he singing the sound track might not be such a good thing. Rumour has it that her voice was damaged by the alcohol & drug abuse. She certainly was not on top form when singing on X-factor in 2009. I think I'd rather remember her and her great voice in its prime

I really have to wonder about some of these people posting on here...we will miss you, we love you, I will miss your voice and music, I will miss your smiling face etc etc. You didn't know her let alone meet her, will her face and music suddenly disappear from C.D.'s/records & pictures?
