Why Frozen is not Disney's most succesful movie... yet

We ranked Disney by how much profitable they were, and Frozen doesn't top the list so far.

Disney’s megahit ‘Frozen’ has been lauded his week for officially becoming the highest grossing animation movie of all time, after it passed the $1,063,171,911 (£641,005,482) mark set by 'Toy Story 3'. But does it deserve to be labeled as Disney’s most successful ever? We’re not so sure.

What the global box office chart doesn’t take into account is inflation. £100 million pounds today is worth a lot less than in 1937, when 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarves' came out, for example.

Firstly a disclaimer; this isn’t an exact science thanks to Hollywood’s notoriously complicated accounting, which means we don’t know how much marketing costs ate into a film’s profitability or even have complete worldwide box office data for many older Disney classics.

Nonetheless, we still think this gives a more accurate reflection of how Disney classics from past and present stack up against each other. It also shows that ‘Frozen’ still has a way to go before it can be seen as Disney’s most successful film of all time. Don’t bet on it getting there though…
