The royals were given a guided tour of the brand new £100 million site where all eight of the ‘Potter’ movies were shot, as well as Bond film ‘Goldeneye’ and ‘Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace’.

The royal trio had a snoop around Hogwarts’ famous Great Hall and waggled some magic wands on Diagon Alley.

The tour also took them around some of Warner Bros.’ actual ‘Dark Knight’ props, with William apparently joking about whether the Batmobile had a babyseat. Kate's baby is due mid-July.

The Duke was there to announce the creation of Prince William Scholarships in Film, Television and Games. An annual prize awarded to three talented people in need of financial support to study postgraduate courses in the three creative industries.

Successful applicants will receive up to £10,000 to cover course fees and receive mentoring support and work placements with Warner Bros. companies.

“All three of us hope you have a long and prosperous stay here,” William said in a speech praising the investment in the studios. He added: “please make another of the 'Dark Knight' series”.
