A couple of years ago director Bryan Singer bought us what is probably the most faithful comic book adaptation to date. Well now Singer's back and he's bringing all the X-Men with him let battle commence.
Set soon after their confrontation with Magneto on Liberty Island, we find Prof. Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and his 'gifted' youngsters enjoying a field trip to a museum when the news breaks a mutant has tried to assassinate the President Of The US right in the middle of the Oval Office - and the anti-mutant sentiment starts to rise. Before long an assault is launched on Xavier's school by a shady military type named William Stryker (Brian Cox) and, with the mutants on the run and a conspiracy to wipe out their kind in full flow, the X-Men have no choice but to team up with the freshly escaped Magneto to face a common foe and try to secure their survival....
Make no bones about it - this is a top-notch flick. The action sequences far surpass anything the original had to offer (especially when Wolverine goes postal on the soldiers invading the school) while the themes of acceptance and fear seem more pertinent than ever.
