This re-make of Melville Shavelson's original 1968 comedy is one for kids who enjoy slapstick. Well, when you put together widower Admiral Frank Beardsley (Dennis Quaid) who has eight kids with Helen (Rene Russo); a hippy-ish fashion designer with ten of her own, chaos is bound to ensue.
Needless to say the pair's chalk and cheese approach to child rearing - him running a tight ship and her being more flexible and lenient - causes untold comedic clashes with the kids when the pair, former childhood sweethearts, meet after many years and decide to marry.
The kids clearly don't share their parents' romantic vision and soon devise a plan to drive them apart.
Those who enjoyed the on screen presence of many kids in the Cheaper By The Dozen films (this is Cheaper By The Dozen and a half) will certainly appreciate the humour here - of course including some mass food fighting - which, unpretentiously, works on one level alone.
Also included is commentary from director Raja Gosnell, deleted scenes with optional audio commentary, featurettes and a Making Of video diary.
