This film is not the first to send up the superhero genre. We've had My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Skyhigh and The Incredibles (which did it most excellently) to name but three.
Zoom's fulcrum is Jack Shephard (Tim Allen), a washed-up superhero (metaphor for Allen's career?) whose brother, Connor (Kevin Zegers), turned to the dark side on the final mission of Jack's Zenith Team. As Connor is primed to return to earth to wreak havoc, Jack is pulled out of retirement to train four would-be superheroes in a bid to thwart his sibling's dastardly plans. They include a girl who can make objects move and a boy who can make himself disappear, skills which hitherto have earned them little but ridicule.
What ensues is pure silliness, with Chevy Chase (Dr Grant)'s running around like a loon and Courteney Cox (Dr Marsha Holloway) falling on her face. A lot while Allen is his usual smirking self so fans of his might be satisfied.
Special features include: Bringing Superheroes to Life: The Making of Zoom, Academy for Superheroes: Guide for Kids.
