Winning isn’t everything, and that’s even truer on a show like RuPaul’s Drag Race. Though fans obviously remember the best moments in the franchise, there are also certain failures in the series that go on to become truly legendary.

From comedy challenges to lip syncs to runway looks to challenge performances, Drag Race has a long list of hilarious moments that just didn’t land on the show. And yet, when it comes to the Drag Race fandom, even these failures are turned into gold and celebrated as important parts of the overall canon.

ShakesQueer's Performance of 'MacBitch' | RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7

“ShakesQueer,” a.k.a. the first acting challenge of Drag Race season seven, had a Team MacBitch consisting of Kennedy Davenport, Pearl, Jasmine Masters, Kandy Ho, Katya, and Violet Chachki. Upon watching these queens acting in the challenge, Mama Ru called this team’s performance “the biggest trainwreck I’ve seen in seven seasons.”

Over the years, fans have learned to love how campy this trainwreck happens to be. But no one can deny that, back then, this truly was a huge fail from these contestants.

The fans immediately loved the “Club 96” concept created by Valentina and Naomi Smalls on All Stars 4. From an objective standpoint, the judges were right to call this the weakest concept of the challenge. But from a meme-able perspective, “Club 96” became an instant hit in the fandom that is still referenced to this day.

LaLa Ri’s “Bag Ball” Runway look (Season 13)

LaLa Ri’s runway look for the “Bag Ball” of season 13 was so iconically bad that it even inspired the creation of the Golden Boot award on Drag Race. Having said that, LaLa has absolutely redeemed herself in a design challenge on All Stars 8, and fans have nothing but very fond memories of that hilarious bag look from season 13.

Roxxxy Andrews’ “Read U Wrote U” Verse (All Stars 2)

The entire world has now learned to embrace Roxxxy Andrews’ “Read U Wrote U” verse on All Stars 2 as a true gem. Back when this season aired, however, most fans joked about Andrews’ verse not really making sense and her performance featuring very random elements. In any case, this is the verse that most Drag Race fans know by heart, which is a testament to Andrews as a songwriter.

Kennedy Davenport’s “Death Becomes Her” Runway Look (Season 7)

With the runway category being “Death Becomes Her,” Kennedy Davenport decided to conjure up a story about being gutted after having a night of hooking in this outfit. Nothing about this outfit (or its accompanying story) made any sense, which is what makes this so legendary and unforgettable.

Spice’s Snatch Game as Miley Cyrus (Season 15)

The Snatch Game w/ Trisha Paytas, Joan Rivers & More! 😍 (Pt. 2) | RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15

People say that the Snatch Game is all about taking big swings. You might hit the jackpot or miss the point completely – but it’s typically better to swing big and see where it goes.

Well, that’s exactly what Spice did with her impersonation of Miley Cyrus in season 15. Overall, this Snatch Game performance had the fans and the judges feeling like they were witnessing a literal car crash: it doesn’t look good, but you also can’t look away. An iconic moment, if you ask us.

Charlie Hides’ Non-Lip Sync (Season 9)

Trinity Taylor vs Charlie Hides - I Wanna Go HD 1080p

Charlie Hides literally just stood on the stage while lip syncing for her life against Trinity The Tuck to the tune of Britney Spears’ “I Wanna Go.” To make matters even worse, Hides came up with just about 10 different excuses as to why she didn’t try harder in the lip sync, turning the whole situation into an even bigger disaster.

Years later, though, it is pretty hilarious to watch this lip sync again as Trinity completely obliterates her competitor and Hides stands there without moving a single inch on the stage.

Jiggly Caliente’s “RuPocalypse” Runway Look (Season 4)

The original WTF runway look in Drag Race herstory came from none other than Jiggly Caliente in season four. The runway category was “RuPocalypse,” but Caliente’s outfit just looked like she grabbed everything she found in the werk room and put it all together onto this look. It was hilariously bad, and Caliente is thankfully now able to joke about it as well.

Utica Queen’s Roast Comedy Set (Season 13)

The Roast of Heidi N Closet, Valentina & Nina West 😇 RuPaul’s Drag Race

When it comes to the comedy roast challenge of season 13, Utica Queen delivered a terrible – and pretty problematic – set. Thankfully, the judges were able to clap back at this queen on the spot, with Loni Love laughing about just how badly Utica was “bombing” in the challenge. Over the years, fans have learned to appreciate the absurdity of this bad comedy set, even if these jokes will never really become funny over time.

Laganja Estranja’s Stand-Up Comedy Set (Season 6)

if laganja's stand up was funny

There are no words to described Laganja Estranja’s stand-up comedy set in season six. The queens had to perform to an audience of elders, and let’s just say that Estranja completely missed the mark when it came to making that audience laugh. And yet, this has become one of the most iconic moments in Drag Race herstory over time, and Estranja has fully embraced that moment along with the fandom.
