11 arrested after man stumbles into London hotel and dies from stab wounds

Eleven people are being held on suspicion of murder after a fatal stabbing in central London.

The Metropolitan Police said the male victim died at a hotel in Euston Street, Camden, on Monday night.

He had entered the Wesley Hotel from the street before collapsing in the lobby.

Staff came to his aid and police were called to the scene at about 10.45pm.

The man was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later.

The suspects were taken into custody at separate London police stations, the force said.

Many guests were evacuated from the hotel on Monday night and began returning on Tuesday morning.

It is understood the victim was stabbed during a large fight outside a nearby pub.

The chairman of the Wesley Hotel confirmed the man was attacked in a neighbouring street.

Reverend Stuart Burgess said: “A young person was stabbed in a neighbouring street, around the corner from Euston Street.

“He made his way to the bar and lobby area of the hotel where he tragically collapsed. Within an hour he tragically died.

“I want to pay tribute to the police who responded quickly and to the staff – it was a very big shock for them but they responded very well.

“There were four or five of them and they soon realised the person was beyond their help and they called 999.

“My thoughts are prayers go out to the family of the man who tragically died.”

The victim is believed to have been attacked two streets away from the hotel – in Starcross Street.

Ayesha Begum, 38, who lives close to where the man was found, said she came out of her home after hearing a commotion.

“Police were following a trail of blood,” she said.

Laura Collings, 34, a guest on a business trip from Manchester, said she returned to the hotel shortly after the man’s body had been taken away.

There were “quite a few people walking around looking upset” who seemed like “they might have been associated in some way” with the victim, she said.

Scotland Yard said inquiries were taking place to identify the victim and inform his next of kin.
