Every four years during the Summer Olympics, we all become experts in the balance beam and the butterfly stroke, and every four years during the Winter Olympics we tune into figure skating to become our own living room versions of Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski.
Half the fun of the Olympics is bonding over watching sports we totally respect but barely understand, and no sport better embodies that than figure skating. The combination of ice dancing, superhuman jumps and spins and indecipherable jargon leaves the majority of novice viewers in a state of confused awe. So to prove you’re not alone, here are 13 tweets about figure skating at the 2018 PyeongChang games that we can all relate to.
We’re all the most confused over brother-sister skating duos.

The questions that keep us up at night.
Serious question: Do the women ever throw the men in figure skating?

For a few weeks every four years, we all pretend to understand what a salchow is.
Once every four years I finally get the 24-hour figure skating television coverage I so desperately crave.

We’ve all been thinking it.
To give you some idea of how homophobic the sports world still is, it took until this year for us to have an openly gay American man compete in FIGURE SKATING.

Making up names for the moves is part of the fun.
Figure skating is sweet but why isn't there a move called the axel rose

Also fun: acting like an expert because who’s going to correct you?
Does anyone else feel like a figure skating expert because of @ITonyaMovie? My roommates keep telling me to stop yelling about how hard it is to pull off a triple axel.

Like peanut butter and jelly, or mac and cheese.
Figure skating is my favorite sport because it combines my love of cut-throat competition with my passion for sequins

We’re united in our national obsession with the baby Nathan Chen videos.
I know that Olympic narratives are crafted for maximum emotional manipulation and it is 100 percent not gonna stop me from tearing up at the videos of Nathan Chen as a toddler skating in a tiny suit and tiny bow tie

Adam Rippon for king, queen and president. Put him on every single TV show please.
