The name brand costs twice as much.
Trading snacks at lunchtime is a big thing with my son and his friends. That’s how he was introduced to Little Bites, which his friend Simon traded him for some cookies.
Little Bites are perfect little packages of perfect little muffins. But a 5-pack of Entenmann’s Little Bites can cost anywhere from $6 to $9 depending on the grocery store, and that’s a bit more than I’d like to pay for a snack.
As a savvy ALDI mom, I went in search of something comparable that would take a smaller bite out of my grocery budget. Sure enough, I discovered Baker’s Treat Mini Muffins at my favorite grocery store.
Why I Love ALDI’s Baker’s Treat Mini Muffins
My teenage boy absolutely loves Baker's Treat Mini Muffins, and I love their price. At $2.69 for a 5-pack, they are less than half of what I’d pay for a package of Little Bites. Given that my son can sometimes eat two to three packages in one sitting, I can buy enough of these mini treats to satisfy his hunger without breaking the bank.
Baker’s Treat Mini Muffins come in three flavors: blueberry muffins, confetti cake, and chocolate chip. My son’s absolute favorite is the blueberry followed by either the confetti cake or chocolate chip muffins, depending on the day. There's also Baker's Mini Brownies, which my son likes to trade with his friends.
My son did a comparison taste test of the mini blueberry muffins from both ALDI and Entenmann’s, and he discovered that they taste and smell almost the exactly same, they’re just shaped slightly differently. Each individual package comes in exactly 1.65 ounces.
I’ve found that one box lasts at least a week if it’s supplemented by other treats. If not, I need two boxes to get through a week of school lunches—especially if my son grabs a package on the way to gymnastics or play practice and then my husband grabs another package or two. He likes to pair the chocolatey varieties with his afternoon coffee for a pick-me-up.
Fun Uses for ALDI Mini Muffins
The diminutive size of Mini Muffins (1.5 inches in diameter by about .75 inches in height) makes them perfect for upgraded sweet snacks or for brunch.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to use them: I love adding a box of 20 muffins to a bowl and serving with a butter bar for brunch. The chocolate chip minis are perfect to accompany a cannoli dip at a party, and the Mini Brownies are a fantastic filling for cake pops. And if I’m feeling extra fancy, I top the blueberry minis with blueberry pie filling or the confetti minis with buttercream frosting and sprinkles. They look darling on a plate, and it’s really, really hard to eat just one.
Mostly, these miniature bits of deliciousness are saved for snacking right out of the bag. My son now has plans to take a package of each flavor and do a taste test at lunch with his friends.
