IHS Markit's final Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) fell to 53.8 in November from October's 54.8 but was ahead of the 53.6 flash estimate. "Although the rate of expansion cooled from October's 32-month high amid new lockdown measures, the sustained expansion should help to soften the economic blow of COVID-19 restrictions, which have hit the service sector hard," said Chris Williamson, chief business economist at IHS Markit.

Michael Gove has poured cold water on any suggestion that the Government is planning to create “vaccine passports”. The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster said they had no plans to create the so-called immunity passports for access to hospitality and entertainment venues after the Covid-19 jab is introduced. Asked on Sky News whether people will need a vaccine passport to go to the pub, Mr Gove replied: “No. The most important thing to do is to make sure we vaccinate as many people as possible.”
