Although corrected quickly, the site had Hanks listed as Best Actor for “Sully,” which only earned a nomination in the Best Sound Editing Category, while Adams and Bening were mistakenly listed in the Best Actress category.
“This morning, in an attempt to release breaking news as announced, ABC Digital briefly posted inaccurate nomination information on the Oscar.com website,” ABC said in a statement. “The nominees announced by the Academy on Twitter were accurate. ABC quickly identified and corrected the errors. We apologize to the Academy, press and fans for any confusion.”

Adams played the lead role in “Arrival,” which earned eight nominations. Bening starred in “20th Century Women,” but the Fox Searchlight release only managed to secure a Best Original Screenplay nomination for writer-director Mike Mills.
While Adams didn’t receive direct admiration from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, “Arrival” sure did. The sci-fi drama about a linguistics expert (Adams) decoding the language of mysterious alien visitors is competing for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director and a handful of technical awards.
The film has stiff competition for Best Picture and Best Director, though, since it is facing off against Damien Chazelle’s awards season juggernaut “La La Land.” The musical starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling tied the Oscar record for most nominations with 14 (matching “Titanic” and “All About Eve”) and broke a Golden Globes record earlier this month when it won in seven categories.
