Hurling a curveball into the 007 proceedings and then retiring to a safe distance is ‘The Good Wife’ star Archie Panjabi.

The British actress recently dropped a snap of herself outside the famous Albert R. Broccoli 007 sound stage at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, featuring the caption ’#TomHiddleston ha!’.

And with the hashtag #ArchieForBond now doing the rounds, she’s discussing the possibilities.

Speaking to Digital Spy, she said: “I wasn’t being funny about it, I was being very serious about it! [laughs].

“I think it’s about time we had an Asian woman playing that role. And I think my skills on ‘The Good Wife’ have displayed that I’m perfectly capable of playing it! I’m really waiting for that phone call.”

As for Hiddleston’s chances at taking over the role from Daniel Craig, the ‘San Andreas’ star added: “I do think he would be a good [pick] - but they’ve done pretty well in the past [with casting].

“It’s a huge decision to make and whoever they go with will be the right choice.”

As it stands, there’s not really any solid evidence to suggest that an announcement from Bond producers Eon about a new Bond is imminent.

It’s also thought that Daniel Craig is still contracted to do another Bond movie, though the fact that things seem to be moving ahead with forthcoming TV series 'Purity’, said to have Craig in the lead, suggests that he is perhaps moving on.

The next Bond movie will be the historic 25th in the series, so whether Craig stays on for it, or a new Bond is announced, is unclear.

Either way, speculation is rife over who might take over, whether it’s Hiddleston – who has denied all knowledge of reported meetings with Barbara Broccoli – or 'Poldark’ star Aiden Turner, who is also being talked into the frame.

For his part, director Sam Mendes is now out, having helmed two Bond movies, 'Skyfall’ and 'Spectre’ almost back to back.

He’s also thrown his two cents into the speculation over the new Bond.

“The truth is, here’s the headline: It is not a democracy,” he told an audience at the Hay Festival.

“It is not The X Factor. It is not the Euro Referendum. It is not a public vote, you know.

“Barbara Broccoli chooses who is going to be the next Bond, end of story. And without that there would have been no Daniel Craig because public support for Daniel was zero.”
