Aerial Photos Show Disney World' s Star Wars Land Nearly Finished Ahead of Opening Day

The chance to visit Disney’s new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park isn’t so far, far away anymore.

The highly-anticipated land, which will open at both Disneyland (in May) and Walt Disney World (in August), is nearing completion. New aerial photos of the Orlando park show the 14-acre spread nearing completion and offer a sneak peek at the attractions visitors have to look forward to.

The shots show a sprawling area filled with various still-under-construction creations – including the iconic Millennium Falcon.

Disney teased the new ride that involves the iconic ship, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, in November, revealing that visitors will get to sit behind its controls in one of three unique flight crew roles.

They previously said that visitors to the land will be making a trip to Batuu, an Earth-like destination on the galaxy’s edge that’s filled with giant stone formations that look like petrified tree stumps up to 135 feet tall.

According to Disney’s lore, the planet was once on a major trade route, but the use of lightspeed travel has rendered it largely irrelevant, and it has fallen into the hands of smugglers and other sketchy figures.

Galaxy’s Edge was first announced in 2015, and will open at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, on May 31 and at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, on August 29. It’ll be the largest single-themed land expansion ever at a Disney park, coming in at a whopping 14 acres.

In addition to the Millennium Falcon ride, the land will also have a second attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, which brings guests through a virtual battle between the Resistance and the First Order, including an epic face-off with Kylo Ren.

Galaxy’s Edge will be opened in phases, meaning visitors will have to wait until later in the year to experience Rise of the Resistance.

Walt Disney World’s Creative Entertainment Show Director J. Michael Roddy previously teased “amazing shows” like the Path of the Jedi, which takes viewers through the entire saga, complete with footage from the films and a few special appearances by some familiar faces (hello BB-8!).

There’ll be plenty out-of-this-world eats, too, that are sure to satisfy foodies.

Guests will encounter aliens, droids and other familiar faces while searching for food and other goodies at the Black Spire Outpost, while Oga’s Cantina will be the destination for exotic beverages with tunes spun by DJ R-3X, a former pilot droid. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo will also be the “designated location for traveling food shuttles.”

Coca-Cola recently announced they’ll be creating custom bottles of Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and Dasani for the park, which will bear the company’s logo replicated in Aurebesh, the written language featured in the franchise.

Those planning to visit Disneyland between May 31 and June 23 will have to make reservations — free, but subject to availability — to access the land, though guests staying at any of the park’s three hotels will receive one reservation per guest with their booking.
