Al Roker has returned to the Today show, two weeks after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer.

The co-host and weather anchor sat down in studio 1A on Monday with Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, and Carson Daly.

Roker announced earlier this month that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He underwent a five-hour procedure on 9 November and has since shared positive news about his health.

On Monday, he gave shoutouts to his “great surgeons” as well as the family members and coworkers who have supported him.

He said he was in good health, especially after getting his catheter removed. “I feel good and I’ve been trying to exercise,” he said, adding that he now shared something with “all of you ladies who have children”: “I’m Kegel-ing right now,” he joked, referring to Kegel exercises that are used to strengthen the pelvic floor.

Roker said he’s going to have blood work done soon and will get tested every six months for the next five years.

The TV anchor has urged viewers to get regular prostate checks since first disclosing his diagnostic publicly. He has emphasised the fact that Black men have a higher risk of developing the disease, meaning they should start getting check-ups earlier.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation recommends that Black men start getting screened for prostate cancer at the age of 40.
