Alec Baldwin turned down Marvel movie villain role

30 Rock star snubbed upcoming Marvel movie

According to Alec Baldwin, one of this summer's biggest Marvel movies could have been a whole lot different… with him taking a villainous role in the unknown film.

That's right folks - controversial actor Alec Baldwin reveals that he could have starred in one of Marvel's big summer blockbusters. And he was apparently up for the role of an unknown villain. But while he's usually a lot more forthcoming, it seems that Alec is remaining rather tight-lipped about the unknown project… But which movie could it be?

The eldest Baldwin brother revealed during an interview on The Howard Stern Show that he'd been offered the role of a Marvel villain… but refused to give away who that was.

"I have [been offered a role in a superhero movie]," he explained. "But I won't mention which one."

"I don't want to undo somebody because they hired someone else to do it. But they asked me to play a villain in one of these Marvel Comics movies."

Of course, we're absolutely dying to know exactly which movie this was… and more importantly, which villain. But while he wouldn't reveal who it was, his comments about the movie's schedule might shed some light on that.

"I wasn't available," he explained. "They wanted me to work a certain time. And because of my wife's pregnancy, I had to turn down two films this summer that I wanted to do."

Now here's where it gets interesting…

Baldwin's wife is supposedly six months pregnant… which would leave several Marvel movies currently in-production as solid contenders. And that includes 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2', 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier', 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', and 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.

But which roles could he have been up for?

Norman Osborn

Father of Harry Osborn and possible Green Goblin in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2', the role has since been filled by Chris Cooper… and I have to admit, Alec Baldwin would have been a particularly strange choice. Not nearly menacing enough, I can't help thinking that would rule him out… especially considering the direction 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' seems to have taken with the character.

Alexander Pierce

Making an appearance in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' it looks as though Pierce is set to be a senior leader from S.H.I.E.L.D… and an all-round nasty piece of work. Played by Robert Redford, this more executive role seems much more up Baldwin's street. And I can certainly imagine him facing off against Nick Fury and Steve Rogers from behind a desk.

Bolivar Trask

The main villain from 'Days of Future Past', Trask was the creator of the Sentinels… and while he's now being played by Peter Dinklage, I can't help thinking Baldwin could have been considered for this role too. Depending on where they wanted to go with the character. Potentially another executive/suited antagonist, it's something I can imagine Baldwin doing well… though perhaps not as well as Dinklage.

Of course, there are plenty of other villains that Alec Baldwin could have been interested in playing… and with the potentially huge number of villainous cameos in 'Spider-Man 2' there are a whole range of iconic criminals to choose from. But which role was he offered? I'm not sure we'll ever find out.

Which movie do you think Alec Baldwin was up for? Are there any Marvel villains you think he should play? Let us know in the comments below…
