Alicia Silverstone Joins Fourth Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Movie

The ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ series is set for a revival, and this time Alicia Silverstone will be in the cast.

Three movies have been made to date based on the popular comedy children’s book series by Jeff Kinney, but as the original young cast are now too old for their roles, this fourth film will feature an all-new ensemble as the Heffley family.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the new movie will adapt Kinney’s book ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul,’ which sees young hero Greg Heffley persuade his family to take “a summer road trip to attend Meemaw’s 90th birthday. Although really he hopes to secretly attend what he thinks is a nearby gamer convention.”

Jason Ian Drucker replaces Zachary Gordon in the lead as Greg Heffley, whilst ‘Clueless’ veteran Silverstone will portray the mother of the family, with Tom Everett Scott as her husband.

However, there will be some continuity with the existing movies as David Bowers, director of ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules’ (2011) and ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days’ (2012) will again call the shots.

Kinney has written eleven ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ books to date, so it seems likely that 20th Century Fox hope to make more films in the series with this new cast.

‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul’ will go into production in September, although no release dates have yet been announced.
