It’s almost ‘Alien’ day!

But what on Earth is it all about?

Every year on 26 April, fans and filmmakers celebrate the ‘Alien’ franchise. Officially organised by 20th Century Fox, the event celebrates everything ‘Alien’ – often with new releases in the form of comic books, video games, collectibles and even re-releases of the classic ‘Alien’ movies.

And this year, ‘Alien: Covenant’ is getting in on it, too.

Why that particular date? Well, it’s a reference that American fans will appreciate – a nod to the moon on which ‘Aliens’ takes place. April 26… 4/26… LV-426. Of course, the event was first introduced back last year, on 26 April 2016 to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the original ‘Alien’.

And here’s what you can expect this Alien Day:

Exclusive Alien: Covenant Live Stream Event

This is the big one – ‘Alien: Covenant’ is holding a live stream event at 10am PST on 26 April which features a Q&A with the cast of the upcoming ‘Prometheus’ sequel. Starring Katherine Waterston as ‘Daniels’, it looks as though ‘Alien: Covenant’ brings the franchise back to its roots… and we’ll find out more about that during tomorrow’s event.

Not to mention, a new glimpse at the movie.

That’s right – the one-hour live stream will feature exclusive footage from ‘Alien: Covenant’.

Worldwide Alien screening for one-night only

It’s back – ‘Alien’ is heading to cinemas across the globe for one-night only. Re-live the original 1979 horror/sci-fi classic as it was meant to be seen – on the big screen. Starring Sigourney Weaver as the iconic Ellen Ripley, we all know the story of her alien encounter.

In space, no one can hear you scream.

But now you can watch her scream on the big screen one more time.

And if that wasn’t enough, the worldwide ‘Alien’ screening includes a new, exclusive sneak peek at ‘Alien: Covenant’ as well as a one-of-a-kind exclusive commemorative ticket.

Alien: Covenant gets a VR experience

As well as an exclusive look at ‘Alien: Covenant’, it looks as though the upcoming movie will be unveiling its own VR experience to coincide with Alien Day. ‘Alien Covenant – In Utero’ will be available from 26 April on Occulus Rift.

And it sounds absolutely gruesome.

Taking on the role of the alien Neomorph, players will experience the very first moments of life as the new alien creature, bursting from the chest cavity of its human victim as it ‘births’ itself into the world.

“Alien: Covenant In Utero is a 360-degree virtual reality journey into a living nightmare and offers a terrifyingly close and personal encounter as an alien neomorph at the time of its birth. Fans will be able to experience the world around them, reliving the very first memories of the neomorph in an immersive environment.”

A staple of Alien Day, it looks as though we can look forward to some new merchandise being announced tomorrow, including a number of limited releases. So far, we’ve seen a collection of 4 new collectible art cards by Mondo… and it looks as though we can expect some cool, new vinyl releases of the film’s soundtrack, too.

Of course, that’s not all…

It seems we’re also getting some new ‘Alien’ comics from Dark Horse, including ‘Prometheus: Life and Death – Final Conflict’ as well as the first new issues of ‘Aliens: Dead Orbit’.

And look out on social media for plenty of other new releases.

‘Alien: Covenant’ stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, James Franco, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Callie Hernandez, Carmen Ejogo, Guy Pearce and Noomi Rapace.

Ridley Scott directs, based on a script by John Logan, Jack Paglen, Michael Green , and Dante Harper.

‘Alien: Covenant’ heads to cinemas on 19 May 2017.
