Amanda Abbington received death threats
Amanda Abbington received "death threats" after it was revealed she suffered PTSD following her stint on 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
The 'Mr Selfridge' actress - who has two children with former partner Martin Freeman and is engaged to stuntman Jonathan Goodwin - has thanked fans for their support after it was revealed she had asked the BBC for footage of rehearsals with her dance partner Giovanni Pernice following the news of her diagnosis, but admitted she had also been targeted by online trolls.
Amanda told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “I just want to thank everyone who has been so kind and lovely and supportive this past week.
“It means a great, great deal.
"I was diagnosed with mild PTSD after 'Strictly' for several reasons and I told a few people about that, in the utmost confidence, among other things that were happening in my life at the time both professionally and personally.
“I’m very sorry that people felt the need to send me death threats, threaten my children and bring up my past, healthy relationship with an ex-partner as an indicator of my current mental health. I wish those people well.”
Her comments come after Giovanni also thanked fans for their support amid reports about his previous clashes with his dance partners due to his "perfectionist" attitudes.
He wrote on Instagram on Thursday (11.01.24): “I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has sent messages of support over the last week — I really truly appreciate it — thank you thank you thank you.”
Amanda, 51, cited health reasons when she quit 'Strictly' in October, just a few weeks into the show.
Noticeably not mentioning Giovanni, she wrote on social media at the time: "It is with deepest regret that I had to leave 'Strictly'. I did not come to this decision easily or lightly but for personal reasons I am unable to continue.
"It was an absolute joy working with my fellow contestants, they are a beautiful, hardworking and talented group of people who I love and who I will miss seeing every Friday and Saturday and competing alongside.
"I want to thank the incredible Production team and everyone on Strictly who looked after me and who are so kind and caring. It's a wonderful bunch of people and I'll miss all of them.
"I'm so sad that I am unable to go any further. Thank you to everyone who voted and who sent wonderful messages and inspiring support. You are all amazing. Truly. Thank you. xxx' (sic)"
