If that picture of Ryan Gosling encapsulated how people felt on stage at the Oscars, this one of shows how it must have felt in the audience.
And it’s just amazing. A bit like Ellen’s famous Oscar night selfie, but for all the wrong reasons.
Meryl Streep can’t look away. Matt Damon’s jaw is heading for the floor. Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps look on, aghast and open-mouthed. Mel Gibson is probably just happy to have been invited back.
And Ben Affleck’s just seen the lady selling ice-creams.
But as for The Rock, he looks like he’s about to vault onto the stage, and throw himself on top of Warren Beatty like he was a live grenade.
Here’s a slightly better angle…
Salma Hayek, also pictured and looking really rather concerned, said that she could hear the kerfuffle unfolding from where she was sitting.
“I actually heard the stage manager standing in front of me saying, ‘No, no, no, that is not the movie. And so I saw it before it happened,” she told Entertainment Tonight.
“I said, ‘What are they going to do now?’ And then I saw him get onstage. And then I said, ‘Oh my god, they are going to say it.’
“I actually saw it before everyone else and it was kind of freaky but exciting, and I am just glad at least two movies got to get up onstage and be celebrated,”
And actually, in a way – and now that the makers of ‘Moonlight’ and ‘La La Land’ are probably over it – had it not happened, it might have been an otherwise pretty predictable affair.
