'Spider-Man' villain Paul Giamatti says that Marvel's Rhino has had a bit of an update… and apparently his Russian accent is a bit hammy.

It looks as though 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' will feature plenty of new takes on classic villains… and with Jamie Foxx's Electro looking meaner than ever, it seems that poor old Rhino has had to up his game. But while Paul Giamatti explains that his costume has had a bit of an update, it looks as though his Russian accent may leave a lot to be desired…

In an interview with the Belfast Telegraph, Paul Giamatti explained that his costume has gone through a bit of an update… at least when compared to the comic books.

"In the comic books of old, he had a suit on that made him look like a rhino and it made him super strong," he explained. "If there was a bank vault, he could butt through it with his head but he wasn't very smart."

And from the various promo images of Rhino caught with his pants down, it looks as though he still isn't exactly the sharpest nail in the box. But what about his suit?

"It's updated now," said Giamatti. "I have a particular type of suit but I don't think I'm supposed to talk about it. He's a Russian mobster because he's a Russian guy in the comic books."

Of course, Russian accents have a bit of a reputation when it comes to western actors - you only have to look at Sean Connery in 'The Hunt For Red October' to see how well that worked out. But it seems 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' might just play that for laughs.

"It's pretty hammy," Giamatti explained. "I loved doing it. It seemed to me like an opportunity to be as over the top hammy as possible. It's really fun."

Obviously, it looks as though poor old Rhino is going to be a figure of ridicule when it comes to 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'. But with his sheer size and strength, I can't help feeling that Peter Parker should be careful not to underestimate him. But how will he compare to Jamie Foxx's Electro? For now we'll have to wait and see… but I get the feeling he'll be taking a rather hefty back seat.
