‘American Sniper’s’ Robert Lorenz Signs First Look Deal with WB; Sets New Film with Jason Hall (EXCLUSIVE)

Following the success of “American Sniper,” Warner Bros. is looking to stay in business with each of the major players that were involved with the film and producer Robert Lorenz seems to be next in line to reap the benefits of the film’s accolades.

Sources tell Variety that Lorenz has signed a two year first-look deal with the studio under the name Stonehouse Motion Pictures and has set an untitled military ops thriller as his first project under that banner.

Lorenz, “American Sniper” writer Jason Hall and producer Peter Morgan will develop and produce the film, which follows a group of a group of military operatives who uncover an imminent threat within the United States. Vlas & Charley Parlapanides and Scott Charnick are writing the script.

Warner Bros. has also optioned a script by former Navy SEAL Travis Lively and Richard Ware in connection with the project.

Lorenz will also direct the pic, which marks the second feature the producer has helmed. His directing debut was on the baseball movie “Trouble With the Curve” starring Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams and Justin Timberlake.

“Rob is such a wonderfully talented filmmaker and has been a member of the Warner Bros. family for two decades, as both a producer and a director, so I’m looking forward to seeing even more successful and original pictures come out of our collaboration with Stonehouse Motion Pictures,” said Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production.

Jon Berg and Racheline Benveniste are overseeing for Warner Bros.

As Variety first reported last week, the studio has also given fellow “American Sniper” producer Andrew Lazar a first-look deal as well and as the film is now the highest grossing movie of 2014 at the domestic box office ($337 million), the continued partnership should remain lucrative for all involed.

For over ten years Lorenz has served as Eastwood’s producing partner since “Mystic River,” which earned Lorenz his first of three Oscar nominations (the other two were for “American Sniper” and “Letters From Iwo Jima”).

With Lorenz looking to follow in the footsteps of Eastwood and direct more projects, it makes sense for the producer to sign his own first-look deal with the studio in order to develop his own projects. It’s also unlikely to prevent him from teaming up with Eastwood on the “American Sniper” director’s future endeavors.

Lorenz is repped by CAA. Vlas and Charley are repped by WME and Circle of Confusion while Charnick is repped by Innovative.
