Amy Adams: You get used to David O. Russell’s manner (exclusive)

Man Of Steel star goes into American Hustle helmsman’s directing technique.

Filmmaker David O. Russell has an infamous on-set reputation (once getting beat up by George Clooney after too much “direction” on ‘Three Kings’), only his ‘American Hustle’ star Amy Adams, who previously worked with him on ‘The Fighter’, says you can get used to his unique manner.

“He is in it! He is in the scene,” laughed Amy, recalling when David directed her from under a coffee table. “I kind of got warmed up to it.”

“He wasn’t as much like that on ‘The Fighter’. We were in the boxing arena and her would be giving directions over the bull horns. So I got used to his manner of doing things,” she added.

“When you work with David, I could like map [my scenes] out, and have all the notes in the margin and everything… and he’s like ‘Yeah, that map you have isn’t in the right universe, let alone that being the right map. And it’s not that he says that, it’s just the way that he leads you outside of the obvious and outside of what you maybe though."

“But he engages in your ideas, and so together that collaboration creates what you see.”
