A football fan who lived the dream after being hired by a club off the back of his Football Manager skills has helped the team to a six-game unbeaten run since his appointment.

FK Bežanija’s 6-1 battering of Busije was their fifth win since 22-year-old Andrej Pavlović was hired as a Data Analyst by the club, who were previously languishing near the foot of a lower-tier Serbian division.

The transformation in fortunes has seen them jump up from 13th to sixth place in the 14-team league ahead of the upcoming winter break.

Pavlovic was offered the unpaid role after sending Bežanija his virtual achievements with the club on the popular football game, including 10 consecutive Serbian league titles, six Serbian cups and a Champions League semi-final appearance.

In reality however, the team were struggling having dropped from from 2nd to 6th tier of Serbian football due to financial troubles and seemed happy to take on any help they could get.

“I reached out to them with my achievements on FM and suggested I could help them. I didn't expect they would call me.” Pavlović said in an interview with Sport Bible.

“We just had a friendly chat and the club director asked me if I could come on Saturday for the first game to see how things go.

“I really couldn't believe it. I was shocked but when we talked they asked me if I could volunteer for them as they are in a rough spot financially."

Pavlović also posts updates from the matches, including graphics and analysis from the match on reddit.

After the most recent victory, he wrote: “Today was another good day for FC Bežanija, WE WON away from home 1-6! We also made it 16 points in 6 games (My time at the club).

The latest version of Football Manager is released November 19.
