All of Us Strangers, the upcoming film starring Normal People's Paul Mescal and Sherlock actor Andrew Scott, is set to hit UK cinemas on January 26.

Written and directed by Andrew Haigh, the film is a loose adaptation of the 1987 novel Strangers by Taichi Yamada.

All of Us Strangers had its premiere at the 50th Telluride Film Festival in August and will debut in US theatres on December 22 — nearly a month before we get to see it in the UK.

The film stars Scott as screenwriter Adam, who soon develops a relationship with his mysterious neighbour Harry, played by Mescal.

The official synopsis reads: "A screenwriter drawn back to his childhood home enters into a fledgling relationship with a mysterious neighbour as he then discovers his parents appear to be living just as they were on the day they died, 30 years before."

The cast is rounded out by The Crown's Claire Foy and Billy Elliot actor Jamie Bell, who play Adam's ageless parents.

Last month, director Haigh praised the all-star cast, saying: "I mean, all of them, you know, Paul, Andrew, Claire, Jamie, they were like a dream cast to work with. It was a really beautiful experience."

Currently, All of Us Strangers boasts a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics applauding the film for exploring the topic of loss.

The Hollywood Reporter had particular praise for the film: "All of Us Strangers has qualities that have always been there in [director Andrew] Haigh's work — a keen perceptiveness about human nature, desire, fear, loss and the restorative power of connection."
