The first verdicts are in for new horror Annabelle Comes Home, and it sounds like its a strong return to form for The Conjuring universe.

After the negative reception to The Curse of La Llorona and The Nun, it looks like the third movie in the Annabelle section of the franchise is a marked improvement.

The consensus seems to be that its a pretty fun horror flick, one critic suggesting it "solidifies" the Annabelle trilogy as "a rare one that improves with each sequel".

"The cast is fantastic, the monster mayhem is surprisingly clever, and the whole experience is just super fun. It's a big win for The Conjuring Universe," CinemaBlend's Eric Eisenberg added.

Fandango's Erik Davis said: "#AnnabelleComesHome is like ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING as a horror movie, and it's a damn good time.

"The scares are never repetitive, the humor is on point & there are plenty of creepy entities to freak you out. Plus, I love movies where it's up to the babysitter to save the day."

"I'm thrilled to report that #AnnabelleComesHome is great! It has a smart script, fantastic performances and it expands the Conjuring universe in some really clever ways. Mostly, though, it's just a ton of fun!" tweeted Moviebill's Silas Lesnick.

Daily Dead's Heather Wixson wrote: "Yay! Finally get to say that #AnnabelleComesHome is hella fun (like spending 90 minutes in a haunted house) & I had a blast with it. Full review next week!!"

Plenty more had their say too, and it was (mostly) pretty positive:

In short, it sounds like this is one to see!

Annabelle Comes Homes will be released on 10 July in the UK.
