According to thelocal.fr, managers of cinemas in Marseille, Strasbourg and Montpellier have cut off showings of the film “until further notice” for “security reasons.”

It was taken off screens after teenagers watching it at several cinemas started fights in the audience.

It was also reported that during screenings under 16s began throwing insults and popcorn at each other, as well as ripping up theatre seats.

Quoted in The Times, Didier Tarizzo, who owns the Les 3 Palmes cinema in Marseilles, says over a thousand people turned up for a screening on Saturday despite there only being 450 seats.

He said: “Some didn’t have the most elementary notion of how to behave.

"They were throwing popcorn and talking at the top of their voices or walking round."

Mr. Tarizzo says he decided to stop showing the film because “it’s not up to me to teach young people how to respect the law”.

He added: “What worried me was that a cinemagoer irritated by all the noise could have had a go at an adolescent.”

BFMTV film critics Alain Grasset said: “It’s a very young audience, for whom the screening is a time to let loose, they go to see it as a joke, but it’s a pretext to go a little wild”.

According to the French newspaper Le Parisien, similar incidents occurred with ‘Paranormal Activity’ and ‘Sinister’ - the latter was pulled from more than 40 screens.

Thankfully for British fans of evil dolls, 'Annabelle' is still on wide release in the UK right now.
