Ant-Man 3 director says one scene is from upcoming MCU project

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania spoilers follow.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has officially kicked off Phase Five with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which features a scene that's actually from Loki season 2.

First, a little background information.

Quantumania brings the multiverse villain Kang the Conqueror (played by Jonathan Majors) to the big screen for the first time ahead of him being the big bad in the next Avengers team-up movie. And if you thought the MCU might move on from credit scenes in this latest phase, you'd be wrong. Quantumania has two, one mid and one post-credits, and both feature Kang.

The first credits scene sees a few variants of Kang coming together to discuss the events of the latest movie and noting that the heroes from our universe are becoming too interested in the multiverse.

The second credits scene features a variant named Victor Timely delivering a lecture on the nature of time. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Mobius (Owen Wilson) are watching on, and the former admits that he's worried about Timely.

Quantumania director Peyton Reed has revealed that the film's second credits scene was filmed during production for season 2 of Loki, the show in which Kang made his first appearance (or at least a variant of him did).

The scene wasn't made exclusively for inclusion in the latest Ant-Man movie, either. It's due to feature in the upcoming batch of Loki episodes as well.

Speaking to IndieWire about the scene, Reed explained: "It's a scene from season 2 of Loki, and Victor Timely is yet another variant from the comics.

"I love Jonathan's look and his sort of period voice and his Frederick Douglass hair.

That scene, there was just another glimpse of sort of, 'OK, there are all these variants and here's maybe the next one you might meet'. We liked that idea."

The 'maybe' is interesting here. Loki season 2 is set to be released in mid-2023 on Disney+. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is due to come out in May, whilst Secret Invasion isn't dated but is due out before Loki season 2. Could another Kang variant appear in one of those projects? Maybe.
