Anya Taylor-Joy explains Furiosa detail you didn't notice

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga star Anya Taylor-Joy has shared an incredible secret from the film that many may have missed.

The prequel introduces Anya as a younger version of the character Charlize Theron played in Mad Max: Fury Road — but there's another actor who plays Furiosa in the movie too.

Nine Perfect Strangers child star Alyla Browne appears as an even younger version of Furiosa, though the way she looks in the film has been manipulated using AI technology.

During an appearance The Kelly Clarkson Show, Anya revealed how director George Miller and his VFX team were able to digitally blend her face with Alyla Browne.

"George Miller had the idea very early on," she said. "The audience was already getting used to a new Furiosa. He wanted the transition from both actors playing her to be seamless. And so I did two days of the craziest things you could ever possibly imagine. And they mixed our faces together."

Anya estimated that it's around 35% of her image on Browne's face in the beginning of the film, before gradually increasing to 80% as the switch is made between the two actors.

"It’s wild to see," she acknowledged.

Anya stressed that because the issues surrounding AI were a key component of last year's SAG-AFTRA strike, it was important to be honest about its use in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

"There’s a reason that our industry went on strike," she said. "It is something that is frightening, and I think if you’re going to use it you have to be honest about it and it always has to be consensual. It’s the lack of consent in anything in life that is the scary thing."

Production company Warner Bros has yet to comment on the use of AI in the film.
