Netflix have teased the return of Stranger Things with a pastel-hued retro mall advert. The footage from the Starcourt Mall shows teenagers wearing long gym socks, dining on hotdogs and making out by the water fountain.

The teaser describes Stranger Things location Hawkins, where children mysteriously vanish, as "a shining example of the American dream".

Though the retro video complete with arcade music is unlikely to be exactly what we'll see in season three, the show will be going in a new direction with producer Shawn Levy telling Glamour, “we’re going to be dealing with forces of evil that are new.”

Levy added, “We’re going to give Will a break. We’re not going to put Will through hell for a third season in a row. He’ll be dealing with stuff, but he won’t be at rock bottom the way we forced the amazing Noah Schnapp to play.”

At the end of the teaser we see Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) working in an ice cream parlour called Scoops Ahoy, alongside new character Robin (Maya Hawke).

Perhaps Levy was hinting that it is Steve's turn to hit rock bottom after endlessly digging scoops of pistachio ice cream to enthusiastic teens.
