‘Apostle’: Dan Stevens to Star in ‘The Raid’ Director Gareth Evans’ Cult Thriller
Cousin Matthew’s schedule just got a little busier. Variety is reporting that Dan Stevens, who made a name for himself on “Downton Abbey” before venturing beyond the walls of Lord Grantham’s estate, will next star in Gareth Evans “Apostle.” A revenge thriller set on a remote island, the film marks the director’s first feature since 2014’s “The Raid 2.”
Evans is both writing and directing “Apostle,” which finds Stevens as a man whose quest to rescue his sister from a cult is stymied by the religious group’s random demands after he finds her — and them — on an island. The period drama is set to go into production next March.
Evans is also at work on the third installment in his Indonesia-set “Raid” franchise, which first made waves at Sundance five years ago. Stevens, meanwhile, has a busy slate that includes “Colossal,” the FX/Marvel series “Legion” and next year’s live-action remake of “Beauty and the Beast.”
