Yahoo Movies Argylle sets unwanted record for Matthew Vaughn
Argylle has set an unwanted record for director Matthew Vaughn, becoming his lowest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes.
The action-comedy focuses on Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), a reclusive author who discovers that the events of her upcoming spy novel begin to mirror developments in real life, leading to run-ins with various intelligence agencies.
Despite boasting a stacked cast including Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, John Cena, Catherine O’Hara, Ariana DeBose and Samuel L Jackson, the film has received mixed reviews thus far, garnering a 37% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The score makes it the worst-reviewed movie of Vaughn’s career as a director, falling below the 40% mark that The King’s Man received.
Despite the mixed reviews, lead star Howard seemed pleased with how the film panned out as she praised the action sequences in an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, saying: “[Vaughn] works so closely with Brad Allan, who's one of the greatest action directors of all-time.
“He had choreographed all these incredible sequences. What was amazing was just getting to get exposed to all the things that they were planning.
"Brad, very sadly, passed away, but Matthew made sure to do right by him and I think it's part of the reason why the action set-pieces are all the more spectacular.”

Cranston, who plays Ritter in the film, also spoke highly of the director in the same interview, saying: “You hear Matthew Vaughn is doing a new movie and I'm already leaning in. He called and asked me to be a part of it, and I read the script and enjoyed the role.
“I think it's very compelling, fun, adventurous, it's funny, laugh-out-loud, so it really has everything and the audacity that is the trademark of Matthew Vaughn when it comes to his shooting style.”
Argylle is in UK cinemas now, and in US cinemas on February 2.
