Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed that he wanted to be president of the United States.

The former Governor of California said that he would have gone for the job of commander-in-chief, but for the niggling issue of his birthplace.

Speaking to Esquire magazine, the Austrian Oak said: “If the Constitution had been different and there was a chance to run for president, I would have done that.

“But that was not an option because the Constitution doesn’t allow a foreign-born to run for president.”

However, the 65-year-old body-builder-turned-actor-turned-politician-turned actor is now happy to back in front of the camera.

“That was always the plan: I’d step out of the movie business for a period of time, and into the governorship. And then, when I’m finished with the governorship, go back to the movie business,” he added.

“I am very happy being busy with movies.”

He's currently doing the promotional rounds for 'The Last Stand', his latest actioner with Johnny Knoxville and South Korean director Kim Jee-woon.

However, it appears that his first proper comeback role may have flopped.

It made just $6.3 million over its opening weekend, landing at a disappointing 10th in the US box office chart.
