Arnold Schwarzenegger has denied the rumours that he’s planning to revive his political career with a run for the US senate.

But the action legend, who has tussled with Donald Trump in recent months over political (and televisual) matters, did say that he is continuing to campaign, notably over issues around redistricting reforms.

In a post on Facebook yesterday, he said: “I’m deeply flattered by all of the people who have approached me about running for Senate, but my mission right now is to bring sanity to Washington through redistricting reform like we passed here in California.

“Gerrymandering has completely broken our political system and I believe my best platform to help repair it is from the outside, by campaigning for independent redistricting commissions.

“Thank you for your kind messages and all of the support and I hope you’ll join me in my battle against gerrymandering with the same enthusiasm.”

The Politico website reported last week that former Governator was being encouraged by Californian Republicans to launch a senate run for 2018, and that his ‘ability to get under the skin of President Donald Trump on social media’ was being seen as a attractive proposition.

Schwarzenegger quit as host of ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ earlier this month, having taken over from Donald Trump.

Following the president’s sensational tweet-storm last weekend, during which he accused former president Barack Obama of wire tapping his election campaign, he found time to also mock Schwarzenegger for his falling ratings.

Schwarzenegger blamed the ‘baggage’ which came with the show for its performance.
