Arsenal star ‘very happy’ under Arteta and makes ‘hope’ admission amid contract ‘discussions’
Martin Odegaard ‘hopes’ he can stay at Arsenal “for a long time” with the club reportedly in talks over a contract extension.
The Gunners midfielder joined on loan in January 2021 before making the move permanent at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
He cost around £30million, which is now seen as a massive bargain with Odegaard club captain and the heartbeat of Mikel Arteta’s system.
Fabrizio Romano has recently reported that Arsenal are in talks over a new long-term deal with the player’s current contract expiring in 2025.
Speaking at the end of last season, Odgeaard admitted that his contract still has a long time left on it, meaning there is “no rush” to agree fresh terms.
And Romano noted on Monday that Arsenal “are planning to continue talks” with a “new long-term deal” in the works.
He wrote on X: “Arsenal are planning to continue talks with Martin Odegaard over new long term deal in the next weeks/months — discussions ongoing.
“Odegaard could be next top player to sign new deal after (William) Saliba, Gabriel, (Bukayo) Saka, (Aaron) Ramsdale, (Gabriel) Martinelli and (Reiss) Nelson.”

This week while on international duty with Norway, Odegaard was asked about life in north London.
He said: “I don’t have much to say, apart from the fact that I am very happy at Arsenal and I hope I can be there for a long time.
“Beyond that, I have no comment right now. Now, it is the national team that is in focus.”
Recently, former Premier League striker and Arsenal fan Darren Bent boldly said he would not swap Odegaard for Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham.
Bent told talkSPORT: “Bellingham? I love him, I love him. But the question that was put to me in the pre-show planning meeting was, would I swap Odegaard for him…
“And no, I’m not swapping our captain, one of our influential players. Right at this particular moment, I’d keep Odegaard, thank you.
“I would say no. I’d keep Odegaard. Our captain, our leader. He’s inspirational.”
Bent continued: “I think Bellingham is probably a better player but for where Arsenal are at right now, Odegaard being the captain, I’m not swapping him.”
