Atwell: My bruises on Sweeney set

5 September 2012

Hayley Atwell has revealed the multiple bruises she got while filming The Sweeney were "well worth it".

The actress had to get physical as tomboy cop Nancy in Nick Love's big-screen remake of the cult 1970s TV series, which also stars Ray Winstone and rapper Ben Drew (aka Plan B).

Hayley said: "I got a lot of bruises that have actually ended up in one of the scenes in the film, on my legs. They were pretty painful, but well worth it."

The Captain America star and her co-stars had to train at a gun club to prepare for the film, in cinemas on September 12.

"We went to a gun club and had a couple of guns that we pointed in various directions and it was just getting used to that really," she said.

"We worked as a team so we would learn various routines of how to spot each other while you're out on, say, an armed robbery situation. It was kind of trust exercises more than stunts really, and then kind of running for your life on action."

Hayley remained tight-lipped about the much-anticipated Captain America sequel. Chris Evans is reprising the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America in the movie, the follow-up to last year's Captain America: The First Avenger.

When asked about the film, Hayley, who played Captain America's love interest in the first movie, teased: "I can't say! It's the Marvel family, which is so protective of their work, so it's not really for me to reveal at this point."
