Austin Powers 4 Could Still Happen, Insists Director Jay Roach

Director Jay Roach has revealed that he’d jump at the opportunity to make a fourth ‘Austin Powers’ film. But it only will if Mike Myers can land on another idea for the franchise.

When quizzed about the chances of ‘Austin Powers 4′ on Larry King Now, Roach admitted that it’s a topic of discussion that comes up whenever he meets Mike Myers, who created, co-wrote and starred as the titular spy and the trilogy’s villain, Dr Evil.

“You know, we talk about it every time we get together,” Roach revealed. “I would say it’s in a latent phase right now but someday if we find the right idea that seems to have it earn itself, for sure.”

“Mike gave me the break of a lifetime in letting me direct ‘Austin Powers 1′, so I’m always good to go,” Roach admitted.

When pushed about any potential ideas they’ve had for ‘Austin Powers 4′, Roach added, “We’ve had a whole bunch. It’s been many years of kicking around but there’s no one that’s stuck yet.”

Roach oversaw all three instalments to the ‘Austin Powers’ series, starting with 1997’s ‘International Man Of Mystery’, which was then followed up with 1999’s ‘The Spy Who Shagged Me’, and 2002’s ‘Austin Powers In Goldmember’.

Over the course of these films the franchise grossed $676.3 million at a cost of just $112.5 million. Since then Hollywood has developed quite a penchant for sequels, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to learn that Mike Myers has was being pursued to reprise the character.

But if Mike Myers’ last film, ‘The Love Guru’, is anything to go by, then it would probably be best if they just left the franchise alone completely.
