Award nomination for Skyfall heightens Oscar buzz

Producers Guild of America's list is often an indication of the Best Picture noms

Oscar buzz around 'Skyfall' has intensified after it was named on the Producers Guild of America's list of the top films of the year.

The guild selects 10 films annually for the list, many of which then go on to appear as the nominations for the Best Picture Oscar.

Now that 'Skyfall' has been named on the list, it's thought that an Oscar nod is becoming increasingly likely for Bond 23, which would make it the first Bond film to be nominated for Best Picture.

Also on the list are 'Argo', 'Beasts of the Southern Wild', 'Django Unchained', 'Les Miserables', 'Life of Pi', 'Lincoln', 'Moonrise Kingdom', 'Silver Linings Playbook' and 'Zero Dark Thirty'.

The Oscar nominations are revealed on January 10, with the Producers Guild Awards happening on January 26.

The Oscars then take place on February 24.

But while 'Skyfall' may make it on the nominations list - along with another possible nod for its cinematographer Roger Deakins -  it's unlikely it will take home the statue.

Though it's a little too early for bookies to pick a favourite until the nominations are announced, it's thought that the biggest contenders for Best Picture are 'Les Miserables', 'Lincoln' and 'Zero Dark Thirty'.
