Awkwafina and Sandra Oh's new sister comedy movie has moved away from Netflix.

The untitled project was originally bought by the streamer last year, though Deadline reports that Netflix subsequently put it back on the market.

The movie has now been acquired by 20th Century Studios, which happens to be owned by Disney.

Directed by Jessica Yu, who has helmed episodes of This Is Us and Walker, the film follows a brilliant but pedantic young woman (Shang-Chi's Awkwafina) who has to reunite with her train wreck of a sister (Killing Eve's Oh) to come up with money to cover their mother's gambling debts.

As such, they embark on a cross-country journey to win cash in the only way they can think – namely, to turn Awkwafina's Jeopardy-obsessed character into a show champion.

The movie is being written by Hocus Pocus 2's Jen D'Angelo, with Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum among the producers.

Awkwafina and Oh previously worked together on Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon, which debuted earlier this year to strong reviews.

Oh will soon be heard in Pixar's upcoming movie Turning Red, which will mark the animation studio's first Asian-led feature film.

Meanwhile, Awkwafina previously addressed the future of her Shang-Chi character Katy, telling Digital Spy in August: "I have no idea what we can expect in the future, I think the mind is kind of left to wonder after you watch the movie.

"But I will say that I would like to see her not without Shang-Chi. I think that their friendship and is really important for each of them individually."
